WHO ARE WE? The Association “Trentini nel mondo” was founded in 1957 and has been known as O.n.l.u.s. (Organizzazione non lucrativa di utilità sociale: non-profit organisation for the general public) from 1998. Since its foundation, the organization has been a unifying means for migrants. The association aim is that of helping the Trentino nationals who live abroad maintain strong ties with their motherland and their cultural and social roots, whilst becoming citizen of their host country. The association “Trentini nel mondo” aims at promoting solidarity amongst the different populations by providing information and coaching and by promoting and supporting social diversity. “NEW” SUPPORT FOR EMIGRANTS The association has become a focal point and a renewed way of guaranteeing assistance to the emigrates and it is no longer only an intermediary between the migrants and the region, but also the promoter and supporter of new visions and of the diversification in socially useful engagements. In fact, as well as providing support such as social and medical assistance and scholarships for the Trentini descendants, who find themselves in financial difficulties, the organization takes part in initiatives that not only help the individual in need, but also support and assist in realizing projects which promote the social and economical development of the area in which the migrants live. 48 projects, which have been delivered, have helped the creation of new jobs, the promotion of co-operation and integration and have highlighted the importance of the attachments to the values of one’s motherland. These projects (as it will be shown in more details later) have mainly been implemented in South America, especially in agriculture and zootechny. EMIGRANTS: PAST AND PRESENT PROBLEMS In the past the association – showing sensitivity and capacity in understanding the problems of the Trentini communities abroad – has organized several meetings and conferences, and has published specific material to further the knowledge of the problems faced by emigrants. Sometimes this has lead to proposals and resolutions that solved specific problems (from citizenship to national insurance). Currently, the association helps people born in an emigrants’ family from Trentino retrieve information and paperwork for citizenship application. According to the law 379 of the year 2000, descendants from emigrates who originally came from the Italian territories of the Austro-Hungarian empire can obtain citizenship. CIRCOLI (CLUBS) TRENTINI AND MEETING POINTS The “Trentini nel mondo” connects over 200 clubs in the world. The Trentini Clubs are not only recreation centres: they are active social and cultural centres. Their aims are the protection of the rights of the citizens from Trentino and the promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity. The Clubs members are invited to and encourage to have an active role in the local activities, so to be able to play a significant role in the protection of their co-nationals’ rights and promote cultural and linguistic diversity. The association has always promoted and encouraged the need for co-operation and co-participation in projects and activities among the Trentini expatriates and the indigenous population in order to avoid isolation from the rest of the society in which they live. The Association and the clubs encourage and support any form of cultural and social exchange promoting integration of both elderly and young people. In particular, the “Trentini nel mondo” believes in the need to create the right conditions and help the younger generations in being part of two or more societies and promoting international co-existence and co-operation to enable a multi- and intercultural society to become a reality. INFORMATION The magazine “TRENTINI NEL MONDO” is the association official mean of communication, published from 1958 and distributed monthly to 12’000 readers worldwide. This publication allows expatriates to keep informed and give information on the socio-economic situation, culture and history of both Trentino and other countries where the migrants reside. New cultural initiatives are taken by the clubs, made known via different communication channels and see the participation of the Italian community and that of the indigenous population. The aims of these initiatives are: · Partaking in politics and civil engagements · Cultural Exchange · Safeguard the historical memory of the motherland. INITIATIVES IN TRENTINO In the last few years, the problematic of emigration have been made known to a wider part of the local community and the dialog on the subject matter has been extended to all ethnical groups on the territory. Actions taken in Trentino: · Panel discussions and information on the history and current reality of emigration from Trentino open to the population, public and private institutions and schools · Production of films documenting the recent projects, the solidarity initiatives and the socio-cultural realities in some of the local communities. These feature films are then broadcast on local, national and international television by Telepace · The local broadcast services are consistently kept up to date on the main initiatives, by means of communiqué and specific press conferences. PRESENCE AT NATIONAL LEVEL “Trentini nel Mondo” is a member of “La Nuova UNAIE” (Unione Nazionale Associazioni Immigrazione Emigrazione – National Association for Immigration and Emigration). The majority of the Provincial and Regional Associations which provide services and information on Italians’ emigration or immigration, belong to La Nuova UNAIE. There are 2,000 such organizations worldwide. The Trentini nel mondo is also a member of UTRIM (Unione Triveneti nel mondo – Triveneti Society in the world) and ULM (Unione Latini nel Mondo – Latin Society in the world). AREAS OF INTERVENTION Whenever starting its initiatives, the Trentini nel mondo takes into consideration people and economic globalization, therefore giving the opportunity of unifying citizens of different ages, who have common historical and cultural roots and are living similar experiences in different geographical areas and cultures. The association gives the opportunity to meet people, establish relationships, exchange ideas and experiences. This organization operates in three main areas: A) Emigration: LP 12/00 B) Immigration: LP 13/90; LN 40/98; LN 189/02 C) Promotion of co-operation and development STATUTE Object – Aim Article 2 The Association has non profit-making and , according to article number 10 of the Decree 460/97, exclusive aims of social solidarity, developing activities in one of the eleven field provided by law. The Association is a tool of aggregation and social work for the migrants in need. Its work articulates in the wider action of social assistance and of promotion of every activity that could better economic, social and cultural condition of emigrated Trentini living in poverty, of their descendants living abroad or in other Italian Regions, of those who want to emigrate, of their families and of the ex emigrates; all that in a continuous way, also through free and voluntary help of its followers. The Association worries to refine knowledge and tools so that the practice of solidarity could result even more effective. To carry out this aims, the Association avails of Delegation and of the Clubs, constituted abroad and in Italy and of their Federation. The Association works in particular in the spirit and according to the purposes of the Provincial Law n. 12/00, n. 8/92, n. 10/88 and National Law 49/87 with the following integration and modification. The Association can adhere to initiative that encourage hospitality of foreign citizens, in particular of non wealthy people. No other activities, except those listed above, can be promoted by the Association. The Association can however carry out activities directly linked with those promoted by Institutions, additional but integrative of the same ones, within bounds allowed by D.Lgs. 4th December 1997 n. 460 with following modification and integration.
